This lesson gives you guidance on everything you will need to know from getting into the car, starting the car, moving off, road position, stopping and getting out of the car.
Your most important lesson you will learn here is MSM – the standard routine when driving.
MIRROR, SIGNAL, MANOUVRE.

Moving Through the Gears
This lesson focuses on the Push-Pull technique which is used to steer the car.
Lesson guideline:
Left turn – Pull with left hand and push with the right hand.
- Right Turn – Pull with right hand and push with the left hand.
- Dry Steering.
- 'Figure of Eight' exercise.
Moving off at an Angle
This lesson takes you through changing gears while on the move.
Lesson guideline:
- Guaging when to change gear by listening to the engine noise.
- Moving up through gears 1- 5 whilst on the road.
- Reaching the roads speed limit.
- Downward gear changes.
- Practice techniques.
- Stopping procedure with gears.
Steering
When moving off facing up a hill you will need more gas and a higher biting point to compensate for gravity. This will ensure the car does not roll backwards.
Lesson guideline:
- MSM - Mirror, Signal, Manouvre.
- Moving off facing up a hill – finding the biting point and releasing the handbrake.
- Higher speed gear changes.
- Moving off facing down a hill – using the foot brake and no gas.
- Lower speed gear changes.
- Parking on a hill.
Hill Starts
This is often done when you have to watch for traffic and watch the car parked in front of you, remember extra vigilance is required due to the restrictive view.

- Watching for oncoming traffic.
- Watching the car in front.
- Clutch control.
- Compensating for gravity.
- Practice techniques.
